Double Scotch for Kelly
ProQuip Golf brand ambassador Chris Kelly completed a historic double in Scottish professional golf last week when he cruised to victory at The Northern Open at Cruden Bay Golf Club, Aberdeenshire.
The 37-year-old from Fife added the Tartan Tour’s ‘second Major,’ to victory in the flagship Scottish PGA Championship at Gleneagles just over a month ago.
He is the first winner of both championships in the same year since European Seniors Tour stalwart Fraser Mann in 2002.
Kelly shot 69, 66, 67, 65 for a 267 total and a five shot victory over runner-up Gareth Wright.
He blew the field away in the final round with seven birdies on the front nine, before easing home to the £4,250 winner’s cheque.
Chris Kelly wears ProQuip Golf weatherwear, knitwear and golf shirts on tour and plays regularly on Scotland’s Tartan Tour, The European Challenge Tour and occasionally on the main European Tour.
Fellow ProQuip brand ambassadors Jamie McLeary and Heather MacRae have also been flying the flag for Scottish golf in recent times.
Jamie McLeary, who wears ProQuip weatherwear on tour, won the KPMG Trophy at Golf de Pierpont in Belgium on The European Challenge Tour last week with a 13 under par four round total of 275.
Heather MacRae, a full-time member of The Ladies European Tour, has qualified for the Ladies US Open in July after shooting a five-under-par round of 67 to qualify at The Buckinghamshire Golf Club last month.
