ProQuip Golf’s long-running association with The Ryder Cup continues to give it the edge over its competitors, particularly for one famous Ex-Captain.
ProQuip, the Preferred Supplier of weatherwear to The 2014 European Ryder Cup Team, recently received a request to supply waterproofs for Tony Jacklin – the most successful European Team Captain in Ryder Cup history.
Russell Brooks, general manager of ProQuip Golf, said: “Tony Jacklin is lucky enough to live in America’s sunshine state, Florida, and doesn’t have much call for waterproofs and windtops anymore.
We got a call saying that he would be spending a lot of the summer and Autumn in the UK working as a commentator at The Open, supporting The British Par 3 Championship and attending the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles and would need great waterproofs.
Tony chose ProQuip for his Ryder Cup teams and we were the first company he thought of two decades later. ProQuip Golf was only too happy to help out a Ryder Cup legend.”
Jacklin chooses ProQuip Trophy
ProQuip outfitted Jacklin with its flagship Trophy waterproof jacket and trousers which are built to the exact specifications of The 2012 European Ryder Cup Team suit from ‘The Miracle at Medinah.’
Trophy’s unrivalled waterproofing is provided by a hydrophilic membrane lamination that has millions of microscopic pores that are thousands of times smaller than a water droplet.
These pores allow air and water vapour to escape, making the suit highly breathable, ultra-lightweight, comfortable to wear and virtually silent to swing in. The technology prevents water from penetrating the polyester outer fabric keeping the golfer completely dry.
Jacklin, captained Europe’s Ryder Cup Team four times between 1983 and 1989 – losing in 1983, before victories in 1985 and 1987 – the latter the first time Europe had won on American soil at Muirfield Village, Ohio – before tying his final match in 1989 at The Belfry, England.
He is possibly most famous for his part in a halved match with Jack Nicklaus in 1969 at Royal Birkdale when Nicklaus conceded a three-foot putt on the final green for a halved match.
The concession enabled the US Team to retain the cup and spared Jacklin the possibility of missing it and losing the cup outright.
